LAW ENFORCEMENT SERIES
Forcible Entry (8 Hours)
Through the lock and through the door forcible entry methods. Common door
and lock construction, and tactics for quick and safe entry. Use of the
flat-head axe and halligan bar in a practical, real-life setting. We are
also an authorized distributor for Fire Hooks Unlimited, which has a full
line of entry tools for law enforcement.
Respiratory
Protection (8-16 Hours)
Overview of hazardous atmospheres requiring respiratory protection. Advantages
and limitations of common respirators, including half-face and full-face
Air Purifying Respirators (APR’s), Powered Air Purifying Respirators
(PAPR’s), Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), and Supplied
Air (airline) Respirators. Basic operational principles and proper donning
techniques. Air conservation and emergency procedures. Class can include
practical evolutions to simulate common law enforcement missions in contaminated
environments.
Hazardous
Materials Awareness/Operations (8-24 Hours)
This class follows the objectives outlined in OSHA’s hazardous materials
response standard, CFR 1910.120. Chemical hazards and hazard recognition,
product identification, and emergency actions will be addressed. For Operations
level, the following additional objectives will be covered: selection
and use of personal protective equipment, basic containment, confinement,
and control operations, and basic decontamination and termination procedures.
Chemical
Protective Clothing (4-8 Hours)
Advantages and limitations of common levels of chemical protective clothing.
Breakthrough times, resistance to permeation, penetration, and degradation,
and common chemical/biological agents encountered will be discussed. Proper
donning and doffing techniques, as well as working in chemical protective
clothing. For organizations that have acquired protective clothing or
are considering a purchase or joint operation with a local fire department.
Hazardous
Materials Decontamination (4-8 Hours)
Principles of chemical/biological contamination and decontamination. Setup
of a decon corridor, and working with a fire department decon team. Emergency
decontamination measures for accidentally contaminated officers will also
be addressed.
Principles
of Air Monitoring (8 Hours)
Use of common devices to sample and evaluate air quality during entry
operations. Monitoring for hazardous atmospheres, including flammability,
toxicity, altered oxygen content, and carbon monoxide. Participants will
gain an understanding of sampling techniques and how to interpret results.
